The In'covenant' truth about Climate Change

Everybody from Al Gore to Coldplay seems to be talking about climate change. Companies like Honda and Toyota are providing greener products, the Ambanis and the Birlas are contemplating tapping into the Carbon credit market and for once the world seems to be pressurizing America to ratify a global agreement(a.k.a the Kyoto Protocol) instead of the other way round(remember the N.P.T).
With every Tom Dick and Harry raising a hue and cry about the issue one would think that collective global footprints would fall or atleast show an inclination to fall. Think Again. Some say it is because it is extremely difficult to change lifestyles, while others say that it is lack of political will in America and China that is pulling the world down. But these are just side effects. Think, is it so hard for a soceity, that constantly evolves with less important happenings such as changing fashion statements, to let go of a few unhealthy habits?
The real reason for action being ineffective on a large scale is lack of global consensus on the issue. Although everyone admits that it is a reality no common goals seem to be sketched out to target it.I was recently told that the lack of common goals will make individuals go in different directions and seeing the currant state of affairs I fear that the adage is true. There are those who would say that the Kyoto Protocol ensures that countries would take like minded measures to tackle the issue, but think, are those that are really responsible following it? Does the protocol unlike other international treaties have any chance of enforcing itself? The answer is NO.
Not only Climate Change almost all global issues since the advent of time, be it terrorism or disease, have remained unsolved because of the inability of our egoistic and seemingly patriotic Policy Makers to come to a promising compromise.Empty vessels make a lot of noise. That is exactly what our so called Global Leaders do at international summits. They truly seem to enjoy to agree to disagree and whether they do it out of tact and diplomacy or pure laziness is anyone's guess.
The collective wind of all the cyclones and hurricanes that have occured in recent times has been unable to sway our politicians. The Industry knows it, I know it and if you are not a dim wit then you probably know it- the future lies in green. Climate Change is going to be a wet blanket on all our dreams, the kind that could possibly snuff us out forever, unless we do something about it. Today what we are doing is not prevention or correction but Damage Control and unless the administration does not realise it we shall perhaps be too late to do anything at all.
Divided, we are failing, but history is witness to the fact that authority always dilly dallies so if we have a chance in hell of combating this menace it is in going green. So do something eco friendly today and spread the message before your Carbon Footprint stamps you down.
